You can then access the contents of the original RAID volume.įor example, if you move a bootable RAID 0 volume created on a system with ICH5R to a system with the Intel® 82801GR I/O Controller Hub 7R (ICH7R), do not boot to the RAID 0 volume. You should boot to an operating system on another non-RAID hard drive or RAID volume. NOTE: There is a new version of this tutorial available that uses gdisk instead of sfdisk to support GPT partitions.

This guide shows how to remove a failed hard drive from a Linux RAID1 array (software RAID), and how to add a new hard disk to the RAID1 array without losing data. If the transmitted data is not very important, you can choose. The disk is shown as the following name with command fdisk: Disk /dev/mapper/. Replacing A Failed Hard Drive In A Software RAID1 Array. (3) Application scenario: It cannot be used in occasions with high data security requirements. I'm using a BIOS raid1 with Marvell chipset which works really well with dmraid in Ubuntu 14.04.

If the new system includes a different I/O controller than the one on which the RAID volume was created, you should not attempt to boot to the RAID volume. Fresh install Ubuntu 16.04.1 unable to detect dmraid disk. Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (RAID driver)Īs an example, you should not move a RAID 5 volume to a system with the Intel® 82801ER I/O Controller Hub 5R (ICH5R) because ICH5R does not support RAID 5.it and mount a different device under the / dev / mapper / directory, (eg. important If the device is a SoftRAID / FakeRAID then first activate. The new system must support the following: In the first case run chkdsk / f on Windows. What are the requirements for this kind of move? This data access may be necessary in the event of a motherboard failure.

Actually, this is not really a RAID, because it does not provide data backup. One way to check whether the driver is loading is look in the expanded volumes tile in SoftRAID for a disk identifier.

I bought a converter to USB A and when I plug it in to my computer, it does not show up in the finder. The hard drive only has two Thunderbolt 2 ports. I read in another forum that mounting with USB a should work. You can move hard drive members of a RAID volume to another system, and you can then access the data on that RAID volume. There are some RAID controllers that support IDE or SATA hard disks. I am unable to mount the drive for raid setup using the Thunderbolt 2 cable. Why would I need to move a RAID volume to a different system?
